Dress Code

Sealy High School Dress Code 2016-2017

 

The district’s dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, prevent disruption, and minimize safety hazards.  Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following:

1. Clothing must meet the dress code requirements.

2. Jewelry, including earrings, chains, emblems, etc. which is considered to be a safety hazard, distracting, disruptive or offensive in any way either to the wearer or to other students is not allowed. Pierced jewelry (including spacers) for any exposed area of the body other than the ears, is not permitted.

3. Vulgar or obscene patches and suggestive lettering or insignia of organizational products referring to alcohol, tobacco, drugs, sex, weapons, violence or gang-related paraphernalia or gang colors or like dress are not permitted. Suggestive wording or phrases of any kind are prohibited.

4. No article of apparel or hairstyle shall ever be worn which will in any way damage school property, create a safety hazard, or create a distraction. Hats, caps, bandanas, or hoods shall not be worn indoors except in the interest of religious practices, safety, or with permission of the principal.

5. Shoes shall be worn at all times and should be chosen for safety and health reasons. No house shoes shall be permitted.

6. Pants must be fitted to size with no excessive sagging. Foundation garments should not be exposed. (i.e. shorts, underwear, boxers, etc.) Students will be allowed to wear shorts no shorter than four (4) inches above the top of the knee cap.  Holes in pants/jeans higher than 4  inches above the knee must not expose skin.

7. Hair shall be clean, well-groomed, and out of the eyes and shall be styled in a way that is neither distracting nor conspicuous. Facial hair such as mustaches, beards, goatees, or sideburns below the earlobes is not permitted. Coloring of hair, other than natural colors, will not be permitted. Spiked hair cannot stand more than two inches above the head.

8. Clothing must be worn in the manner for which it was intended

9. Boys- shirts must have sleeves. Muscle shirts, tank tops, mesh knit shirts or sheer clothing is not allowed.

Girls –Midriffs, crop tops, tank tops, low-cut tops, mesh knit shirts and extra-thin or extra-tight clothing is prohibited. A complete compliment of foundation garments must be worn at all times. The length of dresses, skirts and shorts must be no shorter than four (4) inches above the top of the knee cap. Shirts/blouses must be long enough to extend below the top of the pant or skirt. Sleeveless shirts and dresses must have straps with a minimum of three inches across the shoulder and properly cover all foundation garments. The back should not be exposed.  Burnout, lace and off-the-shoulder shirts are prohibited.  Tights,  leggings, yoga pants, jeggings, spandex or other form fitting materials  are prohibited unless they are covered by shorts or skirts that comply with the dress code.  Holes in pants/jeans higher than 4 inches above the knee must not expose skin.

10. The administration will reserve the right to judge on all matters concerning personal appearance. If the administrative staff determines that a student‘s grooming or dress violates the District‘s dress code, correction of the dress code violation will occur by providing appropriate clothing and/or grooming accessories; furthermore disciplinary action may be taken. Students will not be allowed to leave campus and/or call home for a change of clothes. Loss of instructional time due to a dress code violation will be minimized. Therefore, the student should, if in doubt as to the appropriateness of the article of clothing or other aspect of the dress and grooming regulations, contact the principal in advance for an interpretation to avoid corrective action.

 

THE FOLLOWING WILL BE SPECIFICALLY EXCLUDED:

A. Bare feet

B. Sunglasses

C. Strapless garments

D. Girl‘s tops or blouses with straps less than three inches in width

E. Clothing that is ripped or torn (Holes in jeans/pants more than three inches above the knee are not permitted.)

F. Low-cut garments that expose cleavage.

G. Tattoos with designs, symbols, or words referring to alcoholic beverages, drugs, smoking, violence, death, gangs, Satanism, racism, profanity, nudity, or obscenity are not permitted.

H. House shoes, shower shoes
